Kitchen Chemistry...

Today we had "Kitchen Chemistry" in class with a special guest from the Discovery Museum.  The class began with a presentation on different "acids" and "bases", then transitioned into experiment mode, where we tested the different liquids with CABBAGE PAPER!  Yes, paper soaked in cabbage juice provides some very interesting results indeed.  You can see the triangular-shaped cabbage paper and the dabs of liquid.  We also created a reaction using PENNIES, vinegar and salt.  Ask your child what happened!  All of this work is a nice preview for our chemistry unit, "Mystery Powders", which we will do later on this year.
